15. Religion

a. The City prohibits treating individuals less favorably because of their religious beliefs or

lack thereof.

16. Sexual Orientation

a. The City prohibits treating individuals less favorably because of their romantic and sexual

attraction to persons who are female, male, transgender or other designation.

Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications (BFOQ)

BFOQs are protected traits such as age and gender that employers are permitted to consider when

making employment decisions because it has been demonstrated that those particular traits are

necessary to the normal operation of their particular business. An example of a BFOQ is mandatory

retirement ages for airline pilots.
