THE privately owned Chinese Taizhou
Daming Stainless Steel Co Ltd is
upgrading its existing bar mill with the
implementation of a Kocks 3-roll
reducing and sizing block RSB® of the
latest design.
The target for this upgrade is to
increase the product quality to meet
the customer requirements and to
strengthen the company’s market
position.
Daming’s products are widely applied
in many different fields ranging from
chemical, manufacturing and food
processing to shipbuilding and
automotive industry.
A stainless steel producer with more
than 400 employees, it is located in
Taizhou, a prefecture-level city in
central Jiangsu Province in eastern
China with a population of roughly 4.6
million.
The heavy duty reducing and sizing
block will be implemented as a
finishing block in the existing 200,000
t/a stainless steel bar mill behind the
2-high reversing roughing mill and the
intermediate and pre-finishing mill
consisting of ten 2-high HV stands.
The block will roll straight bars in the
range from 16 to 100mm diameter
with tightest tolerances out of a
one-pass family in the upstream mill
onto the cooling bed.
The 3-roll RSB is dimensioned to
operate with four 3-roll stands with
370mm nominal roll diameter. The
modular, future-orientated new drive
system grants a small footprint in the
layout, a drastically reduced
oil-lubrication volume and a simplified
maintenance schedule.
Intelligent engineering leads to
reduced hydraulic functions, which
ensures a safe and environmentally
friendly rolling.
The scope of supply comprises the
3-roll reducing and sizing block with
automatic quick stand changing
system, the roll shop with quick roll
change, the mill configuration
program Bamicon, and Capas, the
computer-aided system for accurate
adjustment of rolls and guides of the
3-roll stands.
Supervision of erection, comm-
issioning and training of customer
personnel are also Kocks’
responsibility.
Implementing the new 3-roll RSB will
enable Daming to reach its target and
meet not only current but also future
customer requirements.
The start-up of the upgraded mill is
expected for the end of 2015.
