4.4

Interface between the SIS and BPCS

The SIS is totally independent from the BPCS. The SIS provides the BPCS with the following

to advise status. These have no impact on the SIS and are for information and alarm only.

1.

Status of safety relays – volt free contact closed on system healthy.

2.

Level Switch activated – volt free contact closed on system healthy.

Regardless of any control signal from the BPCS, the gasoline pipeline valve will close

automatically on the operation of any high high level switch in tanks 1, 2, 3 or 4.

There is a single Emergency Stop button which will close the pipeline valve in an emergency.

4.5

Systematic Safety Integrity

It is not possible to predict or quantify the probability of systematic failures. The requirements

to address these types of failures are given in terms of qualitative measures, which are required

in BS EN 61511.

Effective controls are required for checking and reviewing design documentation and robust

procedures for operation, maintenance, modification, competence, etc, and the management

system that ensures these disciplines are being carried out to an appropriate level of rigour.

This report should therefore be read alongside the Local Fuel Terminal operational procedures,

competence records, change management processes and in conjunction with the proof-test

requirements for the system.
