Connectors
in space
Amphenol Fiber Systems
International (AFSI)
has developed a fiber
optic MIL-STD-83522 style
connector and strain relief
boot, compliant to NASA
EEE-INST-002 material
guidelines for space
applications.
AFSI’s Space ST connectors
were tested to ASTM E 595
to evaluate the boot’s
outgassing properties and
are available for all of the
popular fiber sizes.
AFSI specializes in the
development and
manufacture of fiber optic
products for harsh
environments. AFSI’s
Space ST component joins
a portfolio of fiber optic
cable assemblies and
components such
as termini, M28876, MIL-ST,
TFOCA and the TFOCA-II
®
connector, which AFSI
developed and patented.
Improving grid
efficiency
Smart grid company S&C
Electric has launched its
IntelliTeam VV volt-var
optimization system and
related services to improve
grid efficiency and stability.
The company said that the
IntelliTeam VV system offers
a cost-effective approach
for optimizing electrical
distribution system
voltage, power factor
and other grid operating
characteristics based on
real-time conditions.
This technology is scalable
for deployments of all sizes
and also offers demand
response load reduction
that does not impact the
consumer.
S&C VP of strategic
solutions, Mike Edmonds,
said S&C is addressing
demands placed on
utilities to improve smart
grid efficiency “head-on.”
The company has also
introduced accompanying
services including analytical
studies, engineer-procure-
construct solutions,
and asset management.
These services span
the life of a volt-var
optimization program,
from initial project
planning to definition to
implementation, S&C said.
