Llagas Creek

Project Description

Project provides for a continuous Class 1 pedestrian pathway along the West Little Llagas Creek Trail from the

City's Downtown south to the future Silveira Park wetlands area. The alignment of this trail will follow the Upper

Llagas Flood Control project taking advantage of the maintenance roads required for that project. The scope

includes a meandering asphalt pathway, including trees, benches, lit crosswalks (where necessary at street

crossings), and interpretive landmarks and signage (where appropriate). The two reaches remaining are: 1)

Watsonville Road to Silveira Park wetlands area, FY 16/17, 2) Spring Avenue to the Downtown core, FY 17/18.

Completion of the northern and southern portions of the project cannot commence until the Santa Clara Valley

Water District (District) completes the Upper Llagas Flood Control project in those areas. The City continues to

coordinate efforts with the District on this project and on the future recreation amenities. The southern portion

is projected to happen in 2017 and the northern portion in 2019. Funding for this reach will come from grants and

Park Impact Funds.

Project Justification

The adopted Parks, Facilities and Recreational Facilities Master Plan calls for installation, where possible, of bike

and pedestrian trails along all creeks and channels. In addition, the adopted Trails Master Plan calls for a paved

trail along the West Little Llagas Creek.
