MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

Twenty-five members present.
Parliamentary Committee.
A report from the Parliamentary Com
mittee on the County Management Bill, 1939,
was submitted. It was resolved that the Bill
be further considered in reference as to how
it may affect those Solicitors who act as
such for various Local Government bodies.
It is hoped that all such solicitors as may be
interested will communicate their views to
the Secretary of this Society without delay.
Income Tax Assessments.
It was resolved to request the Revenue
Commissioners to instruct Inspectors of Taxes
to serve in all counties notices and particu
lars of Assessments under Schedules A. andB.
on Taxpayers, such Notices to contain the
statement
that appeals could be
lodged
within twenty-one days.
OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN OWENS, Solicitor, died on the
20th January, 1940, at his residence, Galgorm
Road, Ballymena.
Mr. Owens served his apprenticeship with
Mr. John K. Currie, Ballvmena, was admitted
in Hilary Sittings, 1899, and practised as a
member of the firm of Caruth and Owens at
Ballvmena.
MR. ANDREW A. WELLS, Solicitor, died on
the 21st January, 1940.
Mr. Wells served his apprenticeship with
Mr. Edward D. MacLaughlin, Dublin, was
admitted
in Hilary Sittings,
1901,
and
practised at Carrickmacross.
MR. GEORGE P. CUSSEN, Solicitor, died on
the 29th January, 1940, at Dublin.
Mr. Cussen served his apprenticeship with
Messrs. MacCarthy and Hanrahan, Cork, was
admitted
in Hilary Sittings,
1891,
and
practised as a member of the firm of Cussen
and Kieran, at 41 Kildare Street, Dublin, up
to 1922, when he was appointed a District
Justice.
He was appointed Senior Justice of the
Metropolitan District Court in 1925, from
which post he retired in 1937.
APRIL EXAMINATIONS, 1940.
Preliminary Examination, Monday and
Tuesday, 8th and 9th days of April. Notice
of intention to attend to be lodged before
19th March.
Final Examination, Monday and Tuesday,
1st and 2nd days of April. Notice of inten
tion to attend to be lodged before 11th March.
