1st February.

Twenty-three members present.

Section 47.

Three applications under Section 47, of

the Solicitors'

(Ireland) Act, 1898, were

dealt with.

Section 16.

An application for leave to be an apprentice

under Section 16 was considered and was

refused.

15th February.

Nineteen members present.

The consideration was begun of draft

Solicitors' Bill, 1940, prepared by Counsel

on instructions, and now submitted by a

special committee of the Council for approval

by the Council.

22nd February.

Twenty-one members present.

Court of Examiners.

The results of Irish examinations were

submitted.

Section 47.

Five applications under Section 47 of the

Solicitors' (Ireland) Act, 1898, were dealt

with.

29th February.

Nineteen members present.

The consideration was continued of drait

Solicitors' Bill, 1940.

OBITUARY.

Mr. John J. Duggan.

The Council refers, with sincere regret, to

the death of its colleague Mr. John J. Duggan,

which took place at his residence, College

Street, Carlow,

on

the 23rd February,

Mr. Duggan had been present at the meeting

of the Council held so recently as that on

Thursday, 15th February. He was, during

the following week, engaged in the Circuit

Court of Carlow on 21st February. At the

meeting of the Council held upon the 29th

February

the

following

resolution was

passed:—

" The Council has learned with deep regret

of the death of its colleague, Mr. John J.

Duggan, and tenders to his widow, and to his

son, its sincere sympathy in their bereave

ment.

The Council places on record its apprecia

tion of the services rendered by Mr. Duggan
