Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.

Ground Signals

September 23−December 10

Opening Party: Saturday, Sep 23 | 7:30−9pm

We’re kicking off fall with an exhibition responding

to notions of the land and Canadian identity through

contemporary sculpture, audio, and video art. This

exhibition features a diverse group of creators including

nationally renowned Indigenous artists and others from

across the country.

We’ve got other exhibits on view too! Over the course

of the exhibits, events like talks, tours, and Family

Sunday—where families explore, enjoy, and create art

together—are fun and engaging opportunities to connect

with the artworks and the ideas behind them. Find out

more at

Enjoy contemporary art and meet other art-interested

people at our fun and free opening parties!

Art Instructor

PROFILES

Surrey Art Gallery invites you to learn

with instructors who are experienced art

educators and practicing artists. Here are

three of our fall instructors.

Carly Mucha

Carly loves handmade pots.

Her work responds to the

vulnerability of the human

body and the contours of

organic forms in nature.

Raised in Chilliwack, BC,

she was inspired to become

an artist by the high

school art teachers who

encouraged her. Following

graduation, Carly studied ceramics at the Kootenay

School of the Arts in Nelson, BC. She earned her BFA in

Ceramics at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Carly is

a member of the Dusty Babes Collective in South Surrey,

and is an instructor and the new Studio Operator at

Surrey Art Gallery.

April Davis

April is a practicing artist

and art instructor with

experience in a broad range

of artistic mediums and

processes. She has her BFA

from Emily Carr University

where she received the

Governor General’s Award

upon graduation. April

believes that through an

appreciation of art and participation in the creative

process, we become more aware of ourselves and the

world around us. She loves to share in this experience

with others through her teaching. April instructs Surrey

Art Gallery’s School Programs, which will be starting

again in October.

Lyn Lay

Lyn has been a part of the

local arts community for

forty years. Art education

from Douglas and Kwantlen

colleges, combined with

fifteen years in early

childhood education and

her active background

in performing and visual

arts, contribute to a rich

foundation for her creative skills. Lyn loves creating

art with children, as they seem to be open to a world

of limitless creative possibilities. Currently, she is the

coordinator of the Youth Arts Council of Surrey and

mentors youth in visual, performing, and literary arts.

This fall, Lyn will be teaching School’s Out Art Adventure

and Paint at the Play.
