ANNUAL REPORT 2016 – BOSKALIS

44

SAFETY

Safety is a core value and a top priority at our company. With the objective of

No Injuries No Accidents (NINA), which is also the name of our safety program, we

want our employees to return from work safely each day. Since the implementation of

NINA six years ago safety awareness at Boskalis has increased significantly and,

more importantly, has resulted in a decline of the Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) by

more than 85% during this period. NINA has become an inextricable part of our

culture and generates a lot of positive energy throughout the company. Our clients

increasingly see NINA as best practice, and our project partners enthusiastically

participate in our interactive NINA training courses.

In 2016 the number of incidents per 200,000 hours worked resulting in absence from

work (LTIF) remained stable at 0.08. As from 2015 we also report on Medical

Treatment Cases and Restricted Work Cases to further improve our safety performance.

By aiming for a reduction in all three categories (together known as TRIR - Total

Recordable Injury Rate) we expect to achieve a further decline in the number of

incidents resulting in injury. The TRIR declined from 0.70 in 2015 to 0.66 in 2016.
