only weakness talking.

The

un

magical real thing

I did as soon as I got

back from the Ivinghoe

weekend was give in

notice at work. Nobody

tried to persuade me to

stay. I kept quiet about the

changed circumstances in

front of my housemates.

I just want to talk for a

minute about Glea and

Aggie. In my opinion

they had a puerile and

annoying obsession with

names. Goldie Lea was

Glea’s full name but she

dropped the ‘oldie’ part,

maybe seeing it as ageist

and put the G and the Lea

together to become Glea.

And she said she was now

very fond of Glea and

always thought of herself

that way. And Aggie, being

Aggie, that is to say a

person who placates and

looked conceited when

she said that. And then

Aggie sidled up to her and

she

looked conceited too

because her proper name

was Aglaia and it meant

she was beautiful and

there was no denying that

either. She was one of

the three Graces in Greek

mythology. Beat that. The

pair of them were full of

self-congratulation and I

thought then, how utterly
