RPM

he initials RPM stand for Resi–

dence Programming Machine.

It

is an organization that co–

ordinates recreational activities for

students. The RPM wide-range activi–

ties are aimed at those students who

remain on campus on weekends. There

are occasionally planned events dur–

ing the week which help students take

a break from their studies. Past RPM

events have included: Orientation

Dance, Stop Dead/ Paul Abbot Con–

cert, 91X Party Sounds, Deep Sea

Fishing, Knott's Scary Farm, Movie

Night, Finals Study Break, and Car–

ton Classics.

Rugby

he USD rugby is one of the top sports on

campus. The rugby team is open to any

male undergraduate student who is cur–

ious about the sport. A majority of the rugby

players have some type of football, soccer, or

rugby

backgro1.md

. The rugby team seems to

have a big draw on foreign students which re–

flects on it's European origins. The team prac–

tices twice a week and has usually one game a

week on Saturdays. The team travels to UCLA,

Santa Barbara, and even as far as Tucson, Ari–

zona for the annual Michelob Classic tourna–

ment. The rugby team plays many teams in the

area such as the Coronado Mens Team; they

also participate in the area OMBAC tourna–

ment. The USD RFC was founded in 1979 by

just a handful of undergraduates. The team

plays in the University Division under the

coaching skills of Steve Hernandez and Loe

Vetter. Rugby is a rough, tough, fast, partying

sport that thrives in popularity on USD's cam–

pus.
