Surf Club

S

urf club executive board: Brian

McEvilly, president (first semester);

Mike Forgy, president (second se–

mester); Valerie Jackson, Treasurer;

Kathy Dufort, Secretary; Mike Doan, in

charge of contests; Mike Dennis, in charge

of motivation; Jeff Pinkin, assistant to

contests; Bruce Dunne, in charge of calen–

dar events; and Phillip Apostolakos, assis–

tant of promotions.

The surf club's many members enjoy

their time in and out of the water. The

surf club club participated in many surf

contests including the NSSA contest. The

club sent a team of sevent to compete at

the NSSA. A group of members went to

Totos Santos for a surfing trip this year.

The club also went camping together early

in the year.

At club meetings the surfers watch surf

movies and eat pizza. Kathy Dufort said of

the club, "The surf club forms comrade–

ship. It's a good time with friends who

share a common interest."

Spanish Club

T

he Spanish club is active and

wild. The group spends alot. of

time together going on field

trips and raising money. These active

members have ventured up to Los An–

geles to see the Spanish group known

as Mecano. They have caravaned

down to Mexico to experience the Ti–

juana Cultural Center and Rosarito to

dine on lobster at Puerto Muero. They

raised money for these extravagant

trips, the group sells Quesadillas and

Mexican Sweet Bread outside the

U.C.. When asked what was the most

valuable experience, Rosabeth Casil–

las and Karen Hernandez both agreed

that,

"It

was great to be able to share

.Mexican traditions and culture with

U.S.D. students."
