Meetings of the Council.

March Uth.

Increment Value Duty.

A LSTTER was read from the Controller of

Inland Revenue in reply to the letter from

the Council, drawing attention to the great

delay in the notification of what increment

duty (if any) is payable. A copy of the letter

of the Controller appears in this GAZETTE.

Court of Examiners.

The report of the Court of Examiners upon

the March Intermediate Examination was

submitted.

The

result

appears

in

this

GAZETTE.

Certificates.

Applications by two Solicitors for renewal

of their Certificates were considered, and

orders were made in both cases.

March 25th.

Portrait of Lord Ashbourne.

Mr. J. M. Colles having presented to the

Society an engraving of the late Right Hon.

Lord Ashbourne, Lord Chancellor of Ireland,

to be added to the collection of engravings

in the Council Chamber, it was resolved that

the best thanks of the Council be conveyed

to Mr. Colles for his gift.

Land Registry,

The attention of the Council was called to

a circular issued from the central office of the

Land Registry of

Ireland

to

the Local

Registrars (with a direction to display the same

in the Local Offices), in which it was stated

that the Registrar had " observed a tendency

' on the part of certain Solicitors to lodge two

' 01 more applications to discharge eqiiities,

' or two or more assents on transmission

' where one of such documents would have

' been sufficient. This is a practice which

' entails on the clients unjustifiable costs."

The Council made objection to the terms

of this circular, as making an undue reflection

on the profession generally. After a corres

pondence with the Land Registry Office, a

letter

from

the Registrar was

received

intimating that the copy of

the circular

exhibited

in

the

local offices would be

removed.

Certificates.

Applications by two Solicitors for renewal

23rd April.
