Solicitors' Golf Competition.

JT has been definitely arranged that the

Competition, open to Irish Solicitors, referred

to in the last number of the GAZETTE, will be

held on Thursday, the 21st of May next, at

the Portmarnock Golf Links, by kind per

mission of the Committee of the Portmarnock

Golf Club.

The morning competition will

be by

strokes, 18 holes, under lowest Club handicap

(limit 25), for Cup presented by the President.

The afternoon competition will be four

somes against bogey under handicap (partners

to be drawn), for prizes presented by the

President.

Post entries will be accepted, but intending

competitors will greatly convenience

the

Committee if they will intimate their inten

tion of playing to the Honorary Secretary

before the 18th of May next, stating the

name of their Club and their lowest club-

handicap. There will be no entrance fees.

Draws for the morning competition will be

made at 9.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m., 11.30 a.m.,

and 12.30 p.m.

The comjpetitions will be

controlled by a Committee consisting of the

following members of the Council, whose

decision on all questions shall be final:—

The President, James Henry, James A.

Denring, James B. Moore, and C. St. G.

Orpen, Honorary Secretary, 18 Stephen's

Green, Dublin.

Legal Appointment.

MR. HUGH HENRY, Solicitor, Limavady, has

been apj^ointed Registrar

to His Honor

Judge Brown, K.C., County Court Judge of

the Counties of Cavan and Leitrim.

Commissioner to Administer Oaths.

THE Lord Chancellor has appointed

the

following to be a Commissioner to administer

Oaths :—

Francis Finnegan, Clerk of Petty Sessions,

Abbeyleix.

Obituary.

MR. STEPHEN O'BRIEN, Solicitor, Clona-

kilty, died upon the 1st March, 1914, at

Clonakilty.

yMr. O'Brien served his apprenticeship with

Mr. Walter Thoruhill, South Mall. Cork, was

admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1892, and

practised at Clonakilty.

MR.

ROBERT

J. McMoRDiE, Solicitor,

Belfast, died upon the 25th March, 1914, at

his residence, Cabin Hill, Knock, County

Down.

Mr. McMordie served his apprenticeship

with his brother, the late Mr. Hans McMordie,

was admitted in Michaelmas Term, 1874, and

practised at Belfast up to the year 1899,

when he retired.

Mr. McMordie was, at the time of his death,

Lord Mayor of the City of Belfast and Mem

ber of Parliament for East Belfast. He had

filled the office of Lord Mayor since January,

1910, and had been Member of Parliament

since December, 1910.

MR. EDWARD PARKINSON, Solicitor, Down-

patrick, died upon the 27th'March, 1914, at

his residence, Ard-na-Geeha. Downpatrick.

Mr. Parkinson served his apprenticeship

with Mr. Robert H. Wallace, Downpatrick,

was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1902, an-d

practised at Downpatrick.

MR. MICHAEL J. CROWE, Solicitor, Kil-

dare, died upon the 30th March, 1914, at

Dublin.

Mr. Crowe served his apprenticeship with

Mr. John O'Dwyer, Tipperary, was admitted

in Hilary Sittings, 1897, and practised for

merly at Tipperary, and latterly at Kildare.

DEAR SIR,

The attention of the Council of this Society

has been drawn to the delay in the issue by

the Inland Revenue of

their certificate,

stating whether Increment Value Duty is or

is not payable.

The Council have before them particulars

of a case where a period of eighteen months

elapsed between the dates of the instrument

and of the certificate stating that no Incre

ment Value Duty is payable.

The Council hope that steps will be taken
