It is important to note that biological models aim to represent

an extremely

complex reality

using

simplistic equations

and a

small number of

parameters.

NTCP models summarize and formalize observations connecting normal

tissue injury and dose-volume distributions (… clinical risk factors)

NTCP models are mathematical/biophysical methods describing the

probability that a certain percentage of the patient population

will exhibit

(unfavourable) reactions in healthy tissues. NTCP is calculated from the (non-

uniform) dose distribution throughout the organ of interest by using the DVH

(at least for the current models)
