A t the commencement o f the Schlesw ig-H olstein

w a r , a S o n g , "D en Tappre L andsoldat,” was

published by Messrs. Hornemann & Erslev, which,

at o n c e , took possession o f the feelings of the

people. This National W ar Song became thoroughly

popular, not only with the army, but was sung by

man, woman, and child, high and low , at all hours

and in all places. A translation of it into English,

under the title o f "The Gallant Soldier,” was made
