CORRESPONDENCE

THE REGISTRY

re: Delays in the Registry of Deeds

llth December, 1967.

A Chara,

I am directed by the Minister for Justice to refer

to your letter of December 6th, 1967, regarding delays

in the Registry of Deeds and to state that the delays

in searching work in that office arose because of a

substantial increase in recent months in requests for

negative

searches, combined with an exceptionally

heavy incidence of illness among key personnel.

To meet

the

situation,

extensive

overtime was

worked since mid-September and is continuing. As a

result, the

time-lag has now been reduced to four

weeks and appears likely to be reduced further before

the

end

of December. Any particular

search

is

expedited if so requested.

Mise, le mease,

S. O'BUACHALLA,

Assistant Secretary.

Department of Justice,

Upper Merrion St.,

Dublin 2.

re: Estate Duty Office

Dear Mr. Plunkett,

7th December, 1967.

I mentioned recently that we proposed introducing

a simplified form of Inland Revenue Affidavit (Form

Al) for small estates. We hope to have it in use as

from 1st January next and I would be glad if you would

bring the matter to the notice of your members.

I enclose a proof copy of the form. The form is to be

used only where all the following factors are present,

namely,

(a)

the deceased died on or after 1st January, 1967,

domiciled in this country and

(b)

the property passing consists of free estate only

and the value of the estate does not exceed £3,000

gross.

The appropriate form in all other cases (whatever the

date of death) is Form A-R. New prints of this will be

designated A.

The Gazette of September/October carried a note of

the impending transfer of the Estate Duty Branch to

No. 72-76 St. Stephen's Green South. The transfer of

staff is scheduled for Tuesday next, the 12th December.

An official notice will, of course, be published.

Yours sincerely,

D. KEADY.

Estate Duty Branch,
