SEPTEMBER 2014 BEACON - page 8

AMessage From
Chaplain Art Brooks…
September 11 has just passed. Let us remember all of the families who suffered losses on that
day 13 years ago. Many of the survivors and the victim’s families are still having a hard time
dealing with this incident. In our prayers, also remember our leaders who are working very
diligently to find a solution to this immense problem of terrorism.
Below is a note regarding a little one who was hurt momentarily by an adult, but responded only as
an innocent child can do. I found this very heart warming.
“Some Ice Cream For The Soul”- Author unknown
Last week I took my children to a restaurant.
My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.
As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good.
God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even
thank you more if mom gets us ice cream for dessert.
And Liberty and Justice for all. Amen!”
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby
I heard a women remark, ”That’s what’s wrong with this country.
Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice
cream! Why, I Never!”
Hearing this, my son burst, into tears and asked me, “Did I do
it wrong? Is God mad at me?” As I held him and assured him
that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad
at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.
He winked at my son and said. “I happen to know that God
thought that was a great prayer.”
“Really?” my son asked
“Cross my heart.”
As you are most likely aware of, Sharon Wood had a heart by-pass
in early August. This procedure was very successful. Within two
weeks after her surgery, Sharon developed a blockage in her left leg
that had a cadaver vein implanted about a year ago. Because the
vein was not able to carry a sufficient amount of blood, it was
necessary to have her left leg amputated above the knee. Sharon is
doing well, and great attitude and outlook. She will soon start her
rehab for these procedures. At this time she is at home. Phone
calls and cards would be helpful in lifting her spirits. Please
remember Sharon and John in your prayers.
