he University of San
Diego men's tennis
team had a definite
young look about them-half
of the starting six was fresh–
men. The 1991 preseason
rankings set USD at 25 in the
country, which is quite an ac–
complishment.
Fall results were mixed Ju–
nior Jose Luis Noriega, a 2-
time NCAA All-American lost
in the quarterfinals of the
Volvo Championships to
Norte Dame. Performing well
both the Rolex Regionals and
the San Diego All-College

Thomas lost in the .3rd round
at the Rolex and in the semis
of the All-College. fitzSim–
mions who coach Collins
identified as the improved
player from last year's squad,
upset two seeded players at
the All-College before losing
in the quarters.
Head coach Collins had
this to say about this year's
team "The challenge of the
'91 USD Tennis Team will not
be to duplicate the success of
recent years, but to simply get
the most out of everyone's
game."
Jose
Luis Noriega has proved to be USD's strongest
&
most valuable player.
