brakes may move in convoys, to save fuel and space on the roads. When any column
member slows down, all those behind it will automatically slow also. There are also
possibilities that need less engineering effort. A radio beacon could be connected to the
brake light, for example.
The scientists develop and the car manufacturers introduce more and more modern
systems that allow to increase the comfort and safety of travel. The Advanced Driver
Assistance Systems are designed for the safety of travel and to increase the safety on the
road. Such systems that cooperate closely with telematics systems should be included:
• eCall system.
• Anti-lock Braking System.
• Adaptive Cruise Control.
• Forward Collision Warning.
• Lane Departure Warning System.
• Curve Speed Warning.
• Blind Spot Detection System.
• Night View Assistant.
• Intelligent Light System.
• Speed Limit Monitoring.
• Potential Collision Detection System.
• Electronic Stability Program.
• Driver’s Fatigue Monitoring System (DFMS).
These systems will develop and increasingly work with telematics systems. New
systems, such as Surround View Technologies (see Figure 7.3), will generate new much
more powerful interoperability within ITS systems.
