English teaching applications. Necessary measures for implementing this volunteer

program include contacting and conferring with the key personnel and then signing

a cooperation agreement.

Purpose: A further purpose of this qualitative research/Action Research (AR) is to

elaborate the benefits of service learning, international and interdisciplinary cooperation

and effective exchange of resources and information, interwoven tasks and skill sets, and

the application of a diverse and multi-source knowledge base to practical applications.

The model of ‘Interdisciplinary collaboration’ does not solely emphasise cooperation

between all parties involved and integration of resources and skills; it is also highly interrelated

with knowledge acquisitionwithin an interdisciplinary approach. The collaboratingmembers

from ‘interdisciplinary collaboration’ engage in interactive communication, cooperation,

integration and co-creation activities by (1) ideas, concepts, theories, (2) tools, techniques,

(3) information and data to assist in solving the problems of the insufficient practice of

current research from a single field.

Team members:

• The core team of the Department of Information Management (one teacher,

nine students).

• The core team of the Department of English (one teacher, five students), at

Aletheia University, through the assistance of the Ministry of Education to

promote free software digital resources service centre on campus to integrate

information education in northern Taiwan open source community.

• One primary and secondary school open information source education

teacher in Taiwan.

• From the MOE, one senior expert with expertise in free software.

• A teacher with expertise in both English and computer technology and two

graduate students from Learning and Digital Technology Department at Fo

Guang University.

• One English teacher.

The students from the Department of Information Management feel that through

the cooperation with English major students they can improve their English skills and

learn ideas because they more or less belong to the natural sciences and technology and

have an emphasis on scientific evidence; English students, however always generate new

inspiration or new ideas.

Actually, this is the first significant try-out for Taiwan, involving the collaboration

and cooperation of the action researchers and members of the organisational system.

It is the first time for this kind of cooperation from country to country; it is the first

time for cooperation between Taiwanese university students and the Mongolian middle

school students, and it is the first time between institutions and government.

Conclusion: “Conceptualisation” in a real event as “interdisciplinary collaboration

service learning” process is possible to let students quickly and efficiently learn the

true concept and practical application, and better understand the true meaning and

importance of service learning. This study will also provide suggestions and implications

of the necessary experience for future study. Based on the data, it is not difficult to
