sheet metal. Rollformers can be used
when fine detail and a good surface quality
are required. Shrinkers are used when
an accurate outer diameter is required.
This process is exactly the opposite of
expanding.
Fontijne Grotnes offers expanders,
shrinkers and rollformers to various industries:
the aerospace industry for sizing rings in jet
engines; the wind turbine industry for sizing
seamless rolled rings for manufacturing
of bearings and flanges; the automotive
industry for gear rings; production lines for
the inner housings of dishwashers; and other
sizing technologies.
Forged rings, both seamless rolled rings
and flash butt welded rings, are commonly
applied in for example the aerospace
industry, particularly for jet engines. Fontijne
Grotnes expanders are commonplace in the
forging industry for sizing rings of all sizes
and materials. The expanders of Fontijne
Grotnes are used to calibrate the ring in order
to minimise machining allowances and to
eliminate local stresses. This greatly reduces
the required amount of machining as the ring
is closer to its final shape and more stable
during post operations. Other benefits of the
Fontijne Grotnes expander in the ring rolling
process are: faster production process,
considerable material savings, improvement
of the mechanical properties of the material,
achieving very tight inside diameter and
ovality tolerances.
The dies are easily interchangeable,
which makes it possible to calibrate a
wide range of rings, with both rectangular
or profiled cross sections, using only one
machine. For rings with a heavy cross
section of a very high yield point, water
cooled dies are available for hot sizing.

Transporters® magnetically transfer metal
blanks, stampings and parts in automated
station-to-station, press-to-press transfer or
robotic pick-and-place applications, among
many others. Engineered with powerful rare
earth magnets that positively hold the part
during transfer – even during unexpected
loss of shop air – the Transporter® family
greatly reduces chances for slipping and
shifting of parts due to mill oil coatings, dust,
dirt, rust or weld splatter.
The Original Transporter® is designed
for use on heavier gauge,
non-flexing parts, and uses
a single burst of shop air to
actuate the magnet on and
off; it is available in three
standard sizes with holding
capacities up to 670lb.
The Transporter ® LP allows
for minimal die clearance
and can be easily installed
to existing air connections
on tooling booms or robotic
face plates. Transporter® LP
magnets are designed to
directly replace vacuum cups with only minor
tooling adjustments. Ideal for applications
in the appliance, automotive, and office
furniture industries, as well as numerous
other material handling applications, the
Transporter® LP is next-generation sheet
handling technology. It only requires a short,
single burst of shop air to quickly release
parts, and is available in three standard
sizes with the strongest unit holding up to
162lb. Included in the LP line is the TPLP50.
A 5", low profile transporter that is ideal for
lifting thin sheets. It is also available with
a destacking option that features a special
magnetic circuit, designed to destack metal
sheets as thin as 0.03" (22 gauge).
