Arthur’s Centenary
Arthur Troop,
founder of the
IPA, was born 15
December 1914. 2014 will mark
the centenary of his birth.
His legacy continues today
and the organisation that he founded, in 1950, has
members in 64 countries and is still evolving. It is
something to celebrate and members throughout the
United Kingdom are busy making arrangements to
mark the occasion.
Whilst there is no worldwide consensus on what day
of the year the IPA should commemorate or celebrate
the existence of the Association, Section UK decided
that the Saturday nearest to his birth date would
be the day to do so. Branches and Regions have
considered a variety of ways to mark IPA Day.
In addition, this year, the National Executive
Committee is looking at a few special ways to mark
Arthur Troop’s birth centenary to coincide with
celebrations of an IPA Day in December 2014.
Lincolnshire County Council is being approached
to see if they will give a special recognition to their
‘son’ who was born in Lincoln. We will have to wait
and see how that develops and updates will be given
on our website. The Permanent Executive Bureau
of the IPA have also been briefed as to Section UK’s
intention to mark the occasion and it is hoped that
they will support this initiative. Enquiries are also
being made to have a celebratory event, probably
in Lincolnshire, however Nottingham is also a
consideration. A limited edition commemorative pin
badge will also be available from our website shop.
1 Region have decided to mark this special occasion
by investigating the production of a commemorative
whisky ( see right for more details). This was one of
the ideas on our Facebook Page: IPA Section UK
100 years, 100 ideas. There is still time to
contribute your ideas:

There is also plenty of time to organise something
near you to commemorate this special year. If you
decide to do so, please let everyone else know
through all the channels that are now available.

2 Region (Northern Ireland) has completed its duty
as custodian of the World Police & Fire Games
bronze sponsorship package.
Mark Kernohan, Vice President of Section UK and
Chair of the IPA-WPFG Bronze Partner Organising
Committee made a presentation to the International
Executive Committee meeting in Denmark in
September. At the presentation, he confirmed the
success of the event and IPA’s sponsorship of it.
His presentation included a video produced by Brian
Kennedy, 2 Region Publicity Officer. To view visit:

The video features photos of key moments
throughout the Games - the IPA stand at the
opening; the hospitality evening hosted by Section
Ireland and Northern Ireland Region; medal
ceremonies performed by IPA members; and of
course the athletes themselves - many of them
IPA members. The video demonstrates the true
friendship of the Games, not least the working
relationship between Section UK and Section
Ireland, whose members worked together to
ensure the IPA made its mark at the event.
In recognition of Section UK’s outstanding
organisation and execution of the sponsorship
package, the Permanent International Bureau
(PEB) awarded the Section with a Certificate of
Recognition.
Section UK performed its final duty in
connection to the Games when
members who competed in
the Games were rewarded for
entreing the IPA’s Outstanding
Results competition - the results
of this can be seen on page 20.
