About the books
The Auxies
, is a pictorial history
of the Auxillary Division Royal Irish
Constabulary (ADRIC) 1920- 1922.
This book concentrates on rare
photographs - a number of which
have never seen before. These
photographs depict the men who
came to Ireland to help restore
order during the troubled times of
the early 1920s.
Fatal Forgery:
Whilst researching the history of bank fraud, the
author came across the story of Henry Fauntleroy, a respected
London banker until, in 1824. It was discovered that he had been
forging his clients’ signatures on documents in order to sell their
shares. Oddest of all, when confronted with his crime, he pleaded
guilty immediately – despite the advice of his lawyer, who knew
that the crime would lead straight to the scaffold.
The story is narrated by Constable (later Sergeant) Plank, and
the story follows his career. He is a man of great integrity and
humanity who finds himself fascinated by the growth in financial
crime – and the opportunity it gives him to pit his mind against the
cleverest fraudsters of his generation. Sent to arrest the banker,
Constable Samuel Plank is puzzled: why commit the crime at all,
when you have plenty of money, and why plead guilty and risk your
neck? Plank’s second adventure is already in the making…
