REFLEX, which specialises in instrumen-
tation and technology for drilling, data
collection and analysis within the global
minerals industry, has launched its new
REFLEX IQ-LOGGER. The unit was dem-
onstrated for the first time at the 35th
International Geological Congress (IGC)
held in Cape Town recently.
The Congress, which attracted approxi-
mately 4 000 delegates from nearly 120
countries, was covered in
Modern Mining’s
September 2016 issue.
Often avoided due to its time consum-
ing and repetitive nature, logging core can
now be done in one tenth of the time, with
the results proven to be highly accurate
and available in real-time.
The REFLEX IQ-LOGGER solution negates
the excessive time required for logging,
while the direct transfer of logging data
to REFLEX’s cloud-based data platform
provides a reliable digital audit trail. The
real-timeQA capability via stereonet ensures
orientations are accurate and reliable.

“Mine planning decisions worth millions of dol-
lars are made on the basis of structural data that
up until now has often been unreliable,” said
Michelle Carey, Global Product Manager,
REFLEX. “The chain of custody and inbuilt
rolled out to a waiting list of high profile
resource companies keen to test the solu-
tion. “We’re working with our clients to
ensure our solution provides the benefits
we anticipate in the field before releasing
the product to market,” said Carey.
Dave Stevenson, General Manager,
REFLEX Geosciences, is excited about the
launch of the new solution. “For the first
time, the combined accuracy of REFLEX’s
survey and core orientation solutions,
together with the REFLEX IQ-LOGGER, pro-
vide a complete solution to ensure data
accuracy for confident decisions on under-
lying structures,” he said.
“These decisions have a direct influence
on identifying the potential economic
value of a project or the safety of a mine.”

ensures the accuracy of the data and now
provides confidence in decision making.”
According to REFLEX, which is head-
quartered in Australia but has a South
African office, the opportunity to gain reli-
able core logging data, instantly, already
has geologists and geotechnical engineers
who have seen the first prototypes talking.
“This is another addition to our Internet
of Mining,” said Carey. “With data trans-
ferred in real-time to our award-winning,
cloud-based REFLEXHUB-IQ where it is
integrated with data from our survey and
orientation tools and then made available
for further analysis anywhere, any time,
the efficiencies already inherent in the
IQ-LOGGER workflows are magnified.”
