MODERN MINING

PRODUCT News

CDE Global, which says it is the largest wet

processing equipment manufacturer in

the world, has established a South African

office (CDE South Africa (Pty) Ltd) and

appointed Nicolan Govender as Regional

Manager for Southern Africa.

The African continent has high infra-

structural demands and the materials

washing solutions CDE develops are said

to be ideal for quarrying and mining sec-

tors supplying the construction market.

CDE claims that the environmental ben-

efits of using its equipment are significant,

not the least of which is that up to 90 % of

the water is recycled when a wet process-

ing washing plant is combined with a CDE

AquaCycle water recovery system.

A typical sand washing operation uses a

minimum of a hundred thousand litres per

hour, which is basically clean water being

converted into waste water and then

pumped or piped away into a settling dam,

at which point it exits the washing system.

With a CDE AquaCycle, most of this waste

water is recycled for immediate reuse by

the customer.

eDART, South Africa’s specialist slurry valve

manufacturer, and Afrivalve have joined

forces in order to offer a greater range of

valves suited to the mining, heavy industry,

water and power sectors. “We are better

placed as a collective to service the valve

requirements of these industries which will

enable customers to source their products

from a ‘one-stop-shop’ facility,” says Greg

Hopton, Group Marketing Manager for

Afrivalve, which will be representing all the

eDART brands.

“A key complaint from project houses is

the scattered source of supply for the wide

range of valve technologies needed, mak-

ing it also a cumbersome exercise for valve

manufacturers to meet all the specifica-

tions on large contracts from one source.

Due to the synergy between eDART and

Afrivalve, it made complete sense to refine

and streamline our operations in order to

meet the demand for quality valve prod-

ucts to the project houses and our joint

customer base,” states Hopton.

“As a result, we will be moving into our

new premises in Kya Sands, Johannesburg.

An AquaCycle thickener in combination with a

M2500 washing plant.

Working with a world-class engineering

team, Govender has recently sold a com-

plete bespoke plant in NorthWest Province

for a waste dump recovery operation. The

customer, a local mining operator, will

now use the new CDE state-of-the-art wet

processing installation to produce a high

specification product.

The plant comprises a M4500 sand

washing plant equipped with two Infinity

fine screens and an EvoWash, running in

synergy with a water-saving AquaCycle

water recovery system.

We hope to relocate to the new facility

early in 2017 and the premises will encom-

pass over 2 500 square metres of factory

and office space.”

eDART was established in 2004 and

says it is a market leader in the manufac-

ture of specialist slurry control valves and

associated specialist equipment to the

mining and related industries. The com-

pany believes its C-Tech knife gate valves,

manufactured 100 % locally in South Africa

by eDART, are well suited to the challenges

of the local market.

“eDART’s C-Tech valve, formerly known

as the Controltech knife gate valve, has

been on the market for many years and has

been sold successfully into many mining

and industrial applications,” says Hopton.

Afrivalve, which was launched in 2015,

will be responsible for the promotion of

the eDART range of products, including

the C-Tech valves (which have been suc-

cessfully installed in mining and industrial

applications in South Africa, Botswana,

Zambia, the DRC and Namibia).
