Fabricate and renew a bulbous bow for the AL ORAIQ

LNG tanker

In December H&W saw the on-schedule departure of the

Al Oraiq liquefied natural gas tanker from the building

dock, complete with a new bulbous bow, having arrived on

17 October for an emergency docking.

Al Oraiq measures 315 metres x 50 metres, which the building

dock at 556 metres x 93 metres, was more than capable of

holding. The 136,685 gross tonnage vessel, built in 2008, is

managed by “K” Line LNG Shipping (UK) Ltd and is currently

sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands. It is the biggest

cargo ship to have docked in the city for almost 30 years.

In six weeks, H&W fabricated, installed and painted a new

bulbous bow, internal steel repairs and side shell repairs,

totalling circa 80 tonnes.
