The pro le surfaces are also made

extremely wear-resistant through targeted

inductive hardening.

The process of cold rolling is new at

Zollern. This procedure is particularly

suitable for the manufacture of small

pro le geometries which are required

in larger quantities. Multiple rolling

machines in a production line carry out

this procedure automatically, adhere to

the narrowest tolerances and provide the

pro les with a high surface quality.

Zollern steel pro les are represented

in many industrial branches. They are

used, for example, as ball and roller

rails for linear guides, as steering and

adjustment

systems

in

automotive

construction, as clamping elements for

free-wheel products, cutter holders and

harrow blades for chopping tasks, thread

guides and pull-o rollers for knitting

machines, key bars and dovetail bars in

generator construction, locking pieces for

hunting and sports weapons, kelly bars in

deep-drilling technology or as clamping

jaws, sliding blocks and guide rails in

mechanical engineering.

Over the past two years, Zollern has

invested over €20m in its modern steel

pro le production at the Laucherthal plant

in southern Germany.

Zumbach Electronic

Stand: 11D41

Zumbach will showcase its extensive

portfolio of dimensional measurement

and inspection systems for wire drawing,

wire insulating and cable jacketing

processes as well as for rod and bar mills.

In order to achieve high precision and

best price-performance ratio, di erent

technologies such as laser scanning,

X-ray, ultrasound, light-section technique

and linear sensor technology are used.

The production of o shore

exibles

involves complex processes requiring

varying individual performances for quality

control.

Any deviations from the required standards

can risk serious consequences if failure

occurs, depending on the application

scenarios.

In order that the risks for future

product failure are eliminated during

the manufacturing processes, such as

wire drawing, pro le rolling/extruding,

stranding

and

sheathing,

Zumbach

provides reliable solutions for the

measurement of all critical parameters.

even for very low cable tensions, to avoid

any extra detrimental bending on the

cable.

WTM’s Visio system will be installed in the

displayed line. This electro-optical control

system, available in several con gurations

and with a variety of options, magni es

the cable surface image during the

production process: measurements, direct

feedback and real time checking on the

cable surface are now possible.

Data obtained can be stored or sent by

LAN connection to any department for

analysis and for generating statistics,

trends and production diagrams.

The second module on display will be

equipped with the triple motorised

taping head suitable for PTFE. This taping

head is a variant of the previous one, and

is suitable to control the tape tension

directly, immediately before wrapping

point, with the tight deviation of ±50

grams.

In this case, the high sensitivity of the

dynamic dancer gives the possibility

to process the softest and most critical

materials.

Each part of the lines is designed for

processing every kind of cable, including

those used for the most sophisticated

applications: aeronautical, aerospace, IT

communication and military.

A third machine will be presented at the

WTM stand. This is a new single twisting

unit designed for very sophisticated LAN

cables, Cat 5/6/7/7a/8.

Thanks to the newly developed technical

solutions, this e cient unit can also

produce other kinds of precise cables,

like high exibility cables, signal cables

(encoder), cables for robotics and cables

suitable for overhead laying.

The quality of the cables produced is

granted from an accurate control of

the tension on the cable itself because

the machine can work with dancer

or torque control, enabling the best

regulator according the cables’ speci c

characteristics and assuring a wide range

of product processing capability.

The pulling capstan that is rotating,

to grant a constant lay length, can be

excluded widening again the exibility of

the machine.

This machine is suitable to be placed

in line with existing pay-o s or can be

coupled with concentric back twist

feeders. Then the line can be completed

with other equipment and accessories

including various types of tape wrapping

machines for di erent tapes.

WTM

understands

completely

its

machines: the design, the construction,

the assembly and even the software. In

this way, every WTM machine can be

integrated or completed with any other

existing machine or equipment without

problems, even from other suppliers.

These also include laser gauges, spark

testers and any other instrument useful

for the production process, which can

be connected and set directly from the

machine operator panel.

Zollern

Stand: 12C71

Reducing processing times and material

consumption, steel pro les are on the

advance in modern construction. When

high quality, durability and economic

viability are required, it is worth

re-thinking the use of steel pro les.

Application areas for the pro les include

components

with

complex

shapes

which have to withstand high levels of

strain. Steel pro les convince with their

component and fatigue strength. The

surface quality and dimensional accuracy,

even within very narrow tolerances, ow

directly into the end product. Necessary

re-work is minimal when steel pro les are

used, and the material consumption is also

reduced by up to 60 per cent.

At Zollern, a steel pro le manufacturer,

automated production processes ensure

quality and accurate reproduction of more

than six million metres of steel pro le

which leave the factories annually.

The company has supplied customers

in

linear

technology,

mechanical

engineering, the automotive industry

and other branches worldwide with 8,000

individually adapted designs.

Specialists select suitable material from

200 di erent steels and steel alloys. The

steel pro les feature excellent properties

due to hot rolling, cold forming and heat

treatment.

The special pro les serve as steering and

adjustment systems in automotive construction
