Meetings of the Council.
February 9th.
Registration of Title.
The Council made a request to the Registrar
of Titles that Local Registrars, upon receiving
a deed for registration, should give to the
Solicitor lodging the deed a receipt in the
nature of a provisional registration. A letter
was read from the Registrar, in reply, stating
that since November, 1914, Local Registrars
upon receipt .of documents issue a printed
letter which states :—" I acknowledge the
" receipt of your letter with the enclosures
" therein contained," and
that there
is
nothing to prevent a Solicitor from lodging
with any dealing with registered land, a
schedule setting out in detail the documents
'lodged, and requesting the Local Registrar
to sign and return the schedule.
It was
decided to make a further communication on
the subject to the Registrar.
Solicitors (Ireland) Act, 1898.
Proceedings were directed to be taken
against Frederick O'Flaherty, an unqualified
person, for having acted as a Solicitor. A
report of
the proceedings appears in this
GAZETTE.
Certificates.
Three
applications
by
Solicitors
for
renewal of their Certificates were considered,
and orders were made in the three cases.

Obituary.
MR. JOHN F. CULHANE, Taxing Master of
the Supreme Court of Judicature, died on
the 6th March,
1916, at his residence,
Sunningwell, Temple Gardens, Dublin.
Mr. Culhane, who served his apprentice
ship wrPh Mr. John J. O'Meara, 211 Great
Brunswick Street, Dublin, was admitted a
Solicitor in Hilary Sittings, 1904, and prac
tised at 5 Cavendish Row, Dublin, up to the
year 1912, in which year he was appointed
Solicitor to the Irish National Health Insur
ance Commission.
In
the year
1914 Mr. Culhane was
appointed to be a Taxing Master of the
Supreme Court of Judicature.
MR. HENRY R. EMERSON, Solicitor, died
upon the 6th February, 1916, at his residence,
36 Marlborough Road, Dublin.
Mr. Emerson served his apprenticeship
with Sir Benjamin Whitney, 36 Dawson
Street, Dublin, was admitted in Trinity Term,
1877, and practised formerly
in partner
ship with the late Mr. A. J. Dudgeon, and
latterly at 6 St. Andrew Street, Dublin,
under the style of Messrs. A. F. Maffett & Co.
