Contribution of minor folates to the total folate

content of infant formula and adult/pediatric

nutritionals

Objective

Question

The objective of this document is to present the results of the

study of the contribution of minor folates, as well as folic acid, to

the total folate content of infant formula and adult/pediatric

nutritionals.

Summary

Answer

The contribution of minor folates and polyglutamate forms was

analyzed in fourteen products.

The contribution of the polyglutamate forms (released by

deconjugation) step did liberate minor folates. When focusing on

5ͲMeͲTHF, the impact on the total vitamin B9 is particularly low

,

1.0 % in average.

The other minor folates not mentioned in the SMPR are mainly

present in the soy based products. They represent in average 2.4

%. When excluding soyͲbased products, these compounds

represent only 1.2 % of the total folates contribution.
