Barloworld Equipment and Caterpillar resulted
in implementation of the Fleet, Health and
Terrain capability sets of Cat MineStar System.
Fleet automatic assignments function was
implemented to automatically determine where
to send the trucks based on parameters includ-
ing travel times to loading tools and processors,
loading times and the production requirement
for the shift. This eliminated the need for trucks
to be locked to specific loading tools and manu-
ally dispatched.
Shift production increased by almost 30 %
in a few months, despite an 8 % drop in load-
ing tool availability.
Terrain software was applied to stop uniden-
tified loads coming from the pit by improving
material recognition and accuracy of ore con-
trol. Controllers, operators and geologists were
trained in optimal use of the system.
Along with operational gains in the pit, the
Khumani mine front office has benefitted from
Cat MineStar System reporting. The highly flex-
ible reporting platform enables customisation
of site-specific reports and dashboards to help
site managers interpret production, operational
and machine health data.
A crusher qualities report enables the site to
track material grade values per hour, comparing
records from the pit to those from the material
scanner in the processing plant for more accu-
rate crusher output.
A new controller handover report displays
the day’s production and KPIs, dramatically
reducing the amount of manual paperwork
passing between shifts.
The Barloworld Equipment and Cat mentor-
ing team on site also produced a suite of five
reports for use on company iPads, enabling
site managers to monitor shift production from
anywhere.
A shift-based operational dashboard shows
current site production along with key per-
formance statistics such as loading time,
underloads and overloads, queuing, hanging
and more. The dashboard refreshes every few
minutes to give the site a near-real-time over-
view of progress.
Improvements are ongoing at Khumani mine
through the partnership between Assmang,
Barloworld Equipment and Caterpillar.
