meeting - Support to EECCA / SEE countries in the framework
of the Environment and Security initiative (ENVSEC).

Assessment support provided to the five countries of Central Asia in the fields of
water (the Amu Darya basin) and climate change. Further facilitation of regional
exchange of water resource information, including negotiations with Afghanistan for
joining the network.

Belarus-Ukrainian joint study for water allocation in the Pripyat basin is supported;
the rules of operation of the water-feed system are prepared for approval by the
bilateral working group on water cooperation.

A feasibility study for environmental cooperation in the Danube delta region is
facilitated and adopted by Moldova, Ukraine and Romania.

Assessment of environmental risks from mining is completed for the Donbas coal
basin in Ukraine. Support provided to Donetsk oblast authorities for setting up an
automated register of pollution sources, preparing a regional environmental report
for 2007-8, and training local mass media.

Analysis of energy-environment interactions is prepared for Belarus, Moldova and
Ukraine. Training provided to the countries’ energy and environmental authorities
and experts in scenario-building and analysis.

Assessment of environmental aspects of primary Mercury mining in Khaidarkan in
Kyrgyzstan, and other inputs to UNEP-UNITAR facilitated study action plan for the
closure of Khaidarkan mine.

Preparation of an assessment of the Current State of Environmental Information in
Rwanda as part of the process to develop the Rwanda Environment Information
Network (Rwanda EIN)
DEWA C2: Advisory services responding to requests from
Governments to enhance their institutional and technical
capacity in data collection, research, analysis, monitoring,
integrated environmental assessment, early warning and
information networking as specified in of the Bali Strategic
Plan and supporting a coherent delivery of United Nations
services at country level, including poverty reduction
strategies and common country assessments

and Lebanon
Environment and security desk assessment in the Mediterranean region (Morocco,
