Deficiency
Severe B
2
deficiency or ariboflavinosis is very rare
in developed countries.
The metabolism of B
2
is closely related to that of
several other B‐vitamins so the signs are almost
always from multiple deficiencies.
Common symptoms may include cracked and red
lips, inflammation of the lining of mouth and
tongue, mouth ulcers, cracks at the corners of the
mouth, and a sore throat.
B
2
in Food
There are many good dietary sources
of vitamin B
2
including most animal
products, milk and other dairy foods.
As with B
1
the USDA Nutrient
Database lists fortified breakfast
cereals as a very good concentrated
source of B
2
.
