The ultra-compact Tusker low head-

room hoist is reputed to be the lowest

unit of its type available on the market. One

of the newest additions to the Elephant Lifting

Equipment range, this steel wire rope hoist is suit-

able for lifting in areas where height restrictions

or confined spaces are an issue.

This design allows it to be run on a smaller beam,

without compromising any of its lifting capacity. The new hoist has

been engineered with the crawl motor and the hoist motor bal-

anced on either side of the beam and innovative engineering design

sees the reeving system mounted in the centre of the unit. “This has

resulted in a gain of 600 mm, further reducing the space require-

ment,” says Elephant Lifting Equipment’s MD, Grant Walton.

The unit is extremely competitively priced, making it accessible to

all end users, and is driven by an energy efficient motor, resulting in

reduced energy consumption. It is supplied standard with a soft start

which reduces swaying and is equipped with overload protection.

The hoist is available in working load limits from 3,2 tons up to

12,5 tons and uses standard steel wire rope which is available ex

stock from the distribution network of parent company, Torre Lifting

Solutions.

Consulting service offered by

Eqstra to African fleet operators

Eqstra Fleet Management has established Eqstra Fleet Consulting to

assist African fleet operators with the design and implementation of

cost reduction plans and cost containment strategies. The new busi-

ness unit, situated in Namibia, will concentrate on fleets operating

outside South Africa, and will be focusing on areas such as vehicle

selection vs operational conditions; fleet replacement and disposal

strategies; funding strategies; utilisation analysis and optimisation;

and operational best practices and implementation.

“With the African continent now being viewed as an area of

growth, it has become essential for corporates who are planning to

expand operations into Africa to understand the local context and to

adapt their business model to suit the demand and demographics of

each country,”says Murray Price, MD of Eqstra Fleet Management.“The

biggest mistake made by many corporates has been to treat Africa as

one single entity and to adopt a single strategy and approach to each

African country targeted. However, any expansion requires not just

the right resource but also the right infrastructure and assets.

“Our new business unit will provide companies with sufficient

information to assess their travel, logistic and tax requirements from a

fleet perspective,”he adds.“We are currently compiling information to

set industry benchmarks and blueprints for fleet utilisation that is not

in place in Africa, and which we believe will become a barometer to

compare fleet cost and utilisation within various industries. We would

like to invite fleet operators to take part in this study.”
