Hydrocyclone offers up to 50 % higher capacity

The new Cavex® 700CVX hydrocyclone from

Weir Minerals can achieve up to 50 % higher

throughput capacity in comparison with

competitor cyclones in the 26-inch diam-

eter range, due to its larger inlet and vortex

finder configuration.

According to Sheldon Gabriel, Product

Manager Cyclones of Weir Minerals Africa

and Middle East, the Cavex® 700CVX hydro-

cyclone has a small, more space efficient

body, making it ideal for new installations.

“It is also perfectly suited and sized to fit

into existing cyclone clusters for easy ret-

rofitting, adding substantially to increased

capacity. This hydrocyclone is the result of

extensive research and development by the

company and underlines our philosophy of

driving customer centricity in all product

development.”

Mark Lockyer, Weir Minerals’ Global

Product Manager Hydrocyclones, says that

the need to increase throughput tomaintain

production levels is a reality for much of the

industry, withmany mines having to process

more ore than they have in the past.“In these

conditions, increasing throughput is essen-

tial,” he says. “Sites that can achieve higher

throughput with minimal capital expendi-

ture certainly have a competitive advantage.”

Gabriel says that Cavex® hydrocyclones

have been highly regarded for their proven

efficiency and high capacity performance

for decades. Cavex® CVX hydrocyclones

are designed to withstand severe abrasion

caused by the rotational flow of solids and

slurry.

“The unique shape of the Cavex® hydro-

cyclone range features a laminar spiral inlet

geometry that allows the slurry to follow

a natural path without encountering any

shelves, edges or corners. This reduces tur-

bulence inside the hydrocyclone, which

helps maximise separation efficiency,

hydraulic capacity and wear life, while mini-

mising localised wear in the feed chamber

and vortex finder.”

With 45 years’ experience in the general

plant hire industry, SPH Kundalila now

operates an extensive fleet comprising

over 320 items of plant which it offers to

customers in mining, quarrying and other

industries. The company was originally

established in the Western Cape in the

1960s as Saldanha Plant Hire.

SPH Kundalila has a vast geographic

base and specialises in materials han-

More than 300 units now in SPH Kundalila’s fleet

dling, crushing and screening, loading and

hauling, rehabilitation and other turnkey

solutions. The company has concentrated

its efforts on the mining industry and has

proved its mettle in the demanding and

harsh environments encountered in this

market sector.

“As a natural evolution and as a result

of the demand from our existing cus-

tomer base and new customers, we have

extrapolated this experience, expertise

and capacity to other market sectors,” says

Graeme Campbell, Group Commercial and

Operations Manager.

In addition to 60 articulated dump

trucks, 40 mobile screens, five mobile

jaw crushers, two mobile cone crushers,

20 excavators, 10 graders and 20 tipper

trucks, the company is reputedly the larg-

est owner of Cat 950H front-end loaders in

the southern hemisphere.

Campbell points out that the company

enjoys the benefit of priority support from

a number of major OEMs.“This stands us in

good stead when we require components

or when we need fast turnaround on our

equipment. This benefit is then passed on

to the client who is assured of minimised

downtime and maximised productivity.”

All operators are trained to perform

daily preventive maintenance tasks, which

drastically reduces the normal down-

time associated with taking an item out

of service for offsite maintenance to be

performed. An emphasis on maintaining

equipment according to OEM specifica-

tions provides the assurance of optimum

reliability and performance. This not only

benefits the client in terms of timeous

completion of tasks, but also extends the

longevity of each piece of equipment.

The company has operational offices in

Gauteng and outlets close to its custom-

ers’operations across the country, with the

exception of KwaZulu-Natal.
