ARENAS, FIELDS, AND FANS
called fantasy sports a multi-billion-dollar
industry. Fans playing on sites that pay win-
ners have made more than $100,000 a year in
a few rare cases.
The impact of fantasy can also be seen
on almost every sports broadcast. The run-
ning “crawl” along the bottom of ESPN or FOX
Sports presents not just game scores, but in-
dividual player stats. Major sports leagues
run their own fantasy games, which would
have been unthinkable even two decades ago.
From in-stadium video to in-home tick-
eting, from cameras that capture reality to
computers that track fantasy, technology has
changed the game for fans.
