of plastics in small diameter pipe up
to 125mm, with the launch of a new
ductile pipe system designed to provide
end users in the water industry with
a ‘no compromise’ solution. Blutop™
demonstrates the modernity of ductile
iron as an alternative choice in small
diameter pipe systems.
Using the latest technologies in both
ductile iron pipe spinning and coating
materials, Blutop combines the trad-
itional values and long-termperformance
of ductile iron with the flexibility of
plastics. The combination of materials
results in a system that provides leak-
free reliability, easy handling, reduced
installation costs and high water quality
even in contaminated ground, in a system
combining durability and performance
to provide enhanced whole life cost.
Developed by Saint-Gobain PAM
to be long-lasting, even at a high
operating pressure of 25 bar, Blutop is a
lightweight, thin-walled ductile iron pipe
in diameters that are compatible with
plastic pipe systems. The pipes are easy
to lay, require no special equipment and
can be jointed manually through a new
jointing system that includes a restraint
design aimed at minimising the use of
thrust blocks.
Combining both strength and flexibility
– with up to 6° deflection at each joint
– the Blutop system can be laid shallow
and deep, and is highly resistant to
third party damage. The pipes have
a unique new Ductan™ interior lining
which provides excellent water quality
properties, and a coating similar to
Saint-Gobain’s PAM Natural™ pipe
system (high tech zinc/aluminium),
making them suitable for use in a wide
variety of ground conditions.
Blutop has been designed to replace the
common practice of selecting plastics
for distribution networks, particularly in
contaminated ground, in complex urban
situations and where high pressure or
shallow or deep installation is required.
