North Channel Yacht Club March 2024 Beacon

Commodore’s Comments: PC Rick Romatz Hello NCYC Membership, with this great

weather mother nature is bringing us in early March this year looks like we could be headed into an early spring and time to uncover the boats earlier than normal this year and getting the 2024 boating season underway, with that being said, it’s also time to start thinking about waking up our old girl from the winter’s nap and getting our Paradise Island in the sun ready for the 2024 season. The Flag and Board of Directors are already hard at work putting the plans together for our spring Elite and spring work parties together. Harbor and Grounds director John O’Leary and Clubhouse director Bill Frederiksen are building their spring project and opening of the club duty schedules. Transportation director Tom Lisowski is preparing the Fin’s for launch by the first of April so watch for future Fanout notifications regarding the spring projects work parties so we can all fulfill our 4-hour spring / Fall work requirements. Our Fleet Captains Shelly and Gary Schroka are busy getting the plans together for the 2024 Rendezvous watch for future notifications with details and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to them. I want to say thank you to R/C Terry Steinmacher and Kathy Fowler for an outstanding job with the Pinball Sunday event they sponsored March 3, 2024, it was well attended by many members everyone seemed to enjoy all the games and great food and refreshments they provided.

The next winter event is just around the corner is the Casino & Pub Crawl Winter Day Bus Trip! March 23rd 11:00 am – 6:00pm Party in the ‘D’ for details watch for future flyer notifications by Fanout and NCYC Facebook page if you have any questions regarding this event you can contact our First Lady Jill Romatz 586 265-7793 or email rromatz69@comcast for details. Thank You See you on the Island soon.

2024 Commodore PC Rick Romatz

Vice Commodore Bill Burkhardt

Wow, can you believe the weather, lots of boats going in already with no ice on the lakes. Can’t wait to get over to the club and check things out. Less than a month till Elite Brigade, time to shine up the club, just like we shine up our boats. By the time you read the flag will have attended the “blessing of the fleet” getting all the good MoJo we can…. And now that I am older…I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford

when I was young. Then I want to move in with them. Stay warm, looking forward to seeing everyone at the club. Vice Commodore Bill Burkhardt

Rear Commodore Terry Steinmacher Our first Elite Brigade is just right around the corner; April 13 will be upon us before we know it. So, keep

an eye out for the fan outs for what’s up and coming. We all know it takes a village to get the Clubhouse and Grounds ready for the upcoming season, will need all hands-on deck once we get started. This is a great time to put in your required four hrs., meet some new member’s and let the friendships begin. And let’s not forget about the lunch that is going to be served. I’m sure our first Lady Jill and her team has something special for everyone to enjoy. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, work up an appetite and get her done! I would like to thank everyone that participated in our first survey; I believe this will work out to be a great form of communication from our Flag and Directors to you the membership. Rest assured that when returned and tallied your answers are anonymous, so make your opinions count and take a few minutes to fill them out.

2024 Rear Commodore Terry Steinmacher

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery

Over the past month I have not been made aware of any in our membership who are hospitalized or diagnosed with a new illness. Still, so many in our membership have recently lost a beloved family member and many others continue their journey with chronic illnesses. I believe prayer truly matters so keep our NCYC family in your prayers and let them know they are in your thoughts. As our temperatures fluctuate daily it is apparent that spring is approaching. I have seen the return of various birds and even buds starting on a tree. Unfortunately, the weeds in my lawn have also started to show. Spring welcomes new life from the dead of winter. This is a reminder to me that the life-giving passion and the death of the Lord brings forth His glorious resurrection. I pray that this Easter the truth of Jesus’ resurrection refreshes your hearts and minds with new hope. Let us join creation in rejoicing in the Lord’s love for us. The perfect sacrifice Christ made for us, His blood shed on the cross for our sins, His resurrection, assuring eternal life in his presence…if only we believe.

May our risen Lord bless each of you and your families with good health, happiness, and joy.

John 11:25-26 KJV

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR Your Board of Directors has been busy interviewing potential NCYC members from the waitlist. An updated waitlist will be provided in next month’s Beacon once we have notified all candidates. As of March 7, 2024, we have approved 7 new NCYC members. Please give them a warm welcome and make them feel at home at NCYC. A list with photos will be posted in the hallway at the clubhouse. They will also be denoted with a green background in the 2024 Roster.

Our new members, as of March 7, are:

Chris and Sarissa Geier – Harrison Twp., MI Brian and Jennifer Irla – Imlay City, MI Kenneth and Tamara Kiwicz – Chesterfield, MI Joe and Rose Klutz – Sterling Heights, MI Bob and Ellin Shevchuk – Port Clinton, OH Andy and Leah Toth – New Baltimore, MI Jay and Kris Wishow – Chesterfield, MI

The 2024 NCYC Roster is currently being prepared. If you have any updates you would like to add, or a photo, please send them to my attention no later than March 20 th .

As we quickly approach the spring work parties, I would like to remind you again to make sure you “sign in” at the clubhouse. This will ensure you get credit for your 4 work hours.

Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your NCYC membership. I look forward to seeing everyone as we begin a new season at the North Channel Yacht Club.

Warm Regards,

Shelley Sweier 2024 NCYC Membership Director

Commodore’s Comments

Welcome to the February 2024 Board of Directors Meeting.

Let me start by saying thank you to all for supporting and coming out to help with the set up for the Commodore ’ s Ball and for all the help behind the scenes helping with the preparations. There was a lot of work going on to make this even such the success it was, so Thank You to this entire Board and many members who pitched in to help. Jill and I are also Grateful for some special help from people like my son Brendan, MC PC Bill Hendricks, PC Brian Fringer, Chaplain Mark Javery, and PC Brian McEvoy for the help getting through the evening program. And thanks to Renee McEvoy for Favors, Sue Brooks & Rachel Fringer for organizing Flowers and Grand March, Carla Verkest & Cathy Scarpaci for the desert table and decorations. This just goes to show you how this Club and membership can come together to make these events successful. Thank You all. I know this Agenda looks full, but I’m confident this Board can make short work of it. A lot of lines but easy items and hopefully short conversation. Thank You.

Good day fellow NCYC members, I trust this note finds you in good health and spirit. First, I would like to thank all those that considered and entrusted me to take over the Harbor & Grounds Director Position. I am well on my way in the learning process for all the responsibilities and duties of the position. I’m off to a good start with the support and tutelage from my predecessor , Terry Steinmacher, and fellow board/flag counterparts. My respect and appreciation for those that have already served on these board capacities only increases as I learn and witness what it takes to operate and preserve the level of benefit for its members and in maintaining our clubhouse and island. I look forward to meeting, and at some point, exceeding the expectations of the position and improving the experience wherever the membership feels is desirable and advantageous. I welcome and would absolutely appreciate any input, suggestions, lessons learned or ideas on how we can make improvements in our collective experience on our Island.
