2016-17 MAAC BRANDING GUIDE RAFT CANISIUS | FAIRFIELD | IONA | MANHATTAN MARIST | MONMOUTH | NIAGARA | QUINNIPIAC RIDER | SAINT | PETER’S | SIENA

UPDATED AS OF JULY 7, 2016

MAAC MISSION STATEMENT

The Goals of the Conference are: A.

To initiate, stimulate, organize, enhance and improve men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic competition between member institutions of the Conference and, thereby, to promote and develop educational leadership, physical fitness and sportsmanship. B. To insure Conference student-athletes must have an opportunity to regularly prepare for and attend classes and final examinations without significant interruption from athletic participation. Each Conference member institution will adopt and adhere to policies, which respect the academic priority of its student-athletes. Such policies will only permit a schedule of practice, training and competition, which will result in a minimum loss of class time and minimum conflict with a student-athlete’s final examination schedule. C. To seek competitive opportunities against other like-minded and nationally respected institutions that allow Conference member institutions to showcase their athletic programs. D. To assist member institutions in their admissions efforts by broadcasting competitive collegiate athletic contests, especially basketball, that will enhance name recognition of member schools as well as promote perceptions of them. E. To develop, initiate, organize, fund and operate marketing programs that provide RAFT visibility, scheduling and broadcast opportunities for Conference member institutions in a manner that maximizes interaction with a member’s alumni, student, business, media and local community.

INSTITUTION COMMERCIAL SPOT ROTATIONS

ESPN3 The MAAC has a total of twenty-nine 30 second commercials for men’s basketball and twenty-eight for women’s basketball MAAC ESPN3 broadcasts. Every MAAC institution commercial spot aired during all MAAC ESPN3 basketball broadcasts. The order of the commercial spots is determined by two factors. The first commercial spot is given to the home team playing and the second goes to the away team. The other slots are determined on a rotational basis beginning with the institutions in alphabetical order. Due to the quick turnaround at the MAAC tournament, there is only one commer- cial spot reel for all the games throughout the entire tournament. The commercial rotation of institutional spots is in alphabetical order. ESPNU The MAAC has a total of ten 30 second commercials for games airing on ESPNU. The home team and away team participating in the ESPNU game are each given a com- mercial during the game. The home team commercial airs during the first half of the game and the away team commercial airs during the second half of the game. Costs The MAAC covers the cost of transmission of the spots through the company Ex- treme Reach who then send the spots over to the ESPN stations. The cost is $125 per transmission per station. It is the institution’s responsibility to pay for the costs of the creation of the commercials as well as any changes that need to be made to meet ESPN’s guidelines. RAFT

TELEVISION IN-GAME PRODUCTION ELEMENTS

1. Access to pre-game and locker rooms Each team shall provide ESPN access to the pregame locker room during the 30 minutes lead ing up to the start of the contest for a look-in for use during the game broadcast. Specifically: All teams playing in games that are part of the conference’s contractual agreement with ESPN, specifically those in the league’s ESPN2 and ESPNU package, will grant ESPN pregame and postgame lockerroom access. The head coach or designee will determine a three-to-five-minute window that ESPN may enter the lockerroom during the 30-minute pregame countdown. For pregame, ESPN will collect footage of the coach’s pep talk as well as candid shots of key players. ESPN will only utilize the postgame access for the winning team’s celebration. In addition, a designated conference or school official may preapprove the material before air. All access will be administered through ESPN’s on-site producer and the host institution’s Sports Information Director. 2. Head Coach Interviews The head coach from the home team will be interviewed at the under 12 media timeout for men’s basketball broadcasts and after the 1st quarter for women’s basketball broadcasts during the first half. The head coach of the visiting team will be interviewed at the under 12 media timeout for men’s basketball broadcasts and after the 1st quarter for women’s basketball broadcasts of the second half. 3. Student-athlete interviews at halftime Immediately following the conclusion of the first half, both the home and visiting teams shall have one participating student athlete interviewed going into the halftime break. The halftime clock will not begin until both student athletes have finished interviewing. The interviews will be live to tape and the MAAC New Media Director of Broadcasting and ESPN crew will review the interview prior to airing. The home team player interview will air following the first commercial break of half time. Immediately prior to the start of the second half, the visiting player interview will air. Identification of the student athlete to be interviewed will be determined prior to halftime through the MAAC and the participating schools. 4. Post-game interviews Immediately following the end of the game, the winning coach and one winning player (usually the Player of the Game) will be interviewed on court. The MAAC and the institution’s Sports Information Director will work to with the conference liaison in the ESPN truck to coordinate the interview. RAFT
