Benefits Consulting Services RFP
Executive Summary
As you will see in our RFP response, we have a specialized Benefits Consulting practice, serving many not-for-profit
and public entity clients in the Greater Kansas City area. We are excited about the prospect of serving your
organization in our full capacity. We would like for you to pay close attention to our response, our consulting
capabilities and our list of not-for-profit clients.
Our Understanding of Unity’s Needs
Based on the released RFP, Unity has these primary objectives which must be addressed in order to achieve your
goals. These objectives are:
1.
Advise and assist Unity in evaluation and selecting among coverage alternatives such as plan coverage’s,
deductibles, co-payments, out of pocket payments etc.
2.
To periodically obtain quotes from at least two insurance companies for health [one of which will be BC/BS
Cost Plus], life and disability insurance and compare and evaluate coverage tiers and premiums. The agent
must be knowledgeable of both self-insured and fully insured plans. It is expected that a full review will be
completed in 2017, looking at both self-insured and fully-insured plans.
3.
Prepare a strategic benefits review and report with benchmarking to other comparable local non-profit
[preferably religious] organizations. Provide strategic planning and benchmarking information used to
determine plan competitiveness and strategies on an on-going basis.
4.
Review coverage documents and invoices to assure coverage has been correctly issued and billed.
5.
Advise Unity on potential gaps or overlaps in coverage.
6.
Assist Unity with reviewing claims data and determining premium impact of any coverage changes.
7.
Assist Unity as requested in submitting claims and interpreting coverage as applied to claims.
8.
Assist with the audits, regulatory filings, ACA compliance, forms and questions as needed.
9.
Assist Unity with benefit renewals by ensuring that all providers that meet Unity’s needs receive proposals.
Seek alternative coverage as requested.
10.
Assist Unity with benefit plan design to contain cost and maximize benefit effectiveness.
11.
Assist with setting up the renewals timing schedule annually. Assist with writing, reviewing, analyzing, and
presenting Requests for Proposals during renewals. Provide side by side reporting for Unity’s review.
Prepare and/or review and advise on contract renewals.
12.
Provide written updates on new State or Federal legislation or judicial decisions impacting Unity and
suggested action or changes in operations or procedures to assure compliance.
13.
Provide advice on data practice, records retention and privacy issues. Research benefit questions and
provide advice to Unity as needed.
14.
Establish relationships with those providers that will most greatly benefit the needs of Unity.
15.
The successful candidate will be in contact with Unity’s Human Resources and Finance staff in all matters as
they relate to benefit insurance for Unity. Said candidate will also be required to address Unity committees or
Unity staff as the need arises.
16.
Prompt response to questions and requests is an absolute requirement. It is expected that there will be
more than one individual within the Agent/Broker capable of addressing possible concerns of Unity.
17.
Analyze and report utilization trends and cost. Help to provide management and staff overview education on
how to best utilize and limit premium increases.
