Alloy

Wire

International

Ltd,

a

manufacturer of precision cold drawn

round wire, flat wire and shaped wire, is

using a PC-controlled universal materials

testing machine from Lloyd Instruments

as part of its quality assurance procedure.

Every coil of wire is subject to tensile

testing prior to dispatch.

Alloy Wire International specialises in the

production of high performance nickel,

cobalt and titanium alloys for use in any

environment that requires resistance to

very high temperatures and corrosion,

but where the mechanical properties of

the metal must be retained.

The materials are frequently used in the

manufacture of springs, seals, fasteners

and many other applications used in a

variety of industries including aerospace,

petrochemical, medical and nuclear.

Tensile tests are performed using a Lloyd

Instruments EZ50 50 kN twin column

universal materials testing machine

equipped with NEXYGEN™ MT control

and data analysis software. NEXYGEN™

MT features a comprehensive library of

international standard tests for many

different applications, including EN,

BS and ASTM standards, however the

system can also be configured to carry

out user specified tests. Tests can be

carried out on material both before and

after heat treatment.

Alloy

Wire

International’s

quality

manager, Peter Lambe, said: “Our focus

is on the production of comparatively

small quantities of material with fast

turn-round, manufactured to customer

specification, so testing and certification

of every coil is a vital part of the quality

process.

“Materials testing is an important part of

this procedure and we have been using

equipment from Lloyd Instruments for

about 19 years.

“As well as tensile testing, we can also

perform bend tests, elongation, torsion

tests, wrap tests and proof stress tests as

part of the certification, if required.”

100% tensile testing for specialist alloys

With the Ecobus Power I 5 x 16mm

and

the appropriate adapters, Dätwyler Cables

introduces a complete energy flat cable

system in the IP65 protection class.

The five-conductor Ecobus power flat

cable (3L+ N + PE) is optionally available

with a halogen-free low-smoke or with an

oil-resistant PVC sheathing.

Available components include a Power

I-adapter for the attachment of an input/

output cable of up to 5 x 16mm and an

output adapter for up to two cables of 5 x

6mm

2

. Connections are furnished through

contact point screws at suitable locations

along the entire length of the cable,

and also under voltage, thus avoiding

stripping and cutting the flat cable.

The external measurements of the flat

cable are 48.5 x 11.3mm, and the fire load

is only 2.48 kWh/m. It can be protected

with 3 x 63A, so a single cable can be

operated at electrical capacities of up to

40kW.

Ecobus cables are approved by a Lloyds

Register certificate for use in ship

construction and on drilling platforms.

With Ecobus flat cable system the energy

to be supplied can be tapped at any

desired point using Ecobus puncture

and connection adapters. Furthermore,

these installations allow problem-free

reconfiguration.

Egyptian contract for Italian machinery

PS Costruzioni Meccaniche Srl has been awarded a large contract with Egyptian

cables manufacturer, El–Sewedy, for nine coiling machines, both semi-automatic

and fully automatic coil winding systems.

Some PS machines are to be installed at El-Sewedy Mother Company in Egypt, while

others are destined for El-Sewedy branches. Cables to be processed by PS machines

will range from 1mm to 25mm diameter.

PS will also supply an automatic coiling machine, mod. PS 600/25. This line can

produce three coils, 100 metres long, per minute. These coils can reach an OD up to

600mm and have a maximum weight of 80 kilos.
