Tube straightness gauge from LIMAB
LIMAB, which is based in Sweden,
manufactures laser measurement
systems for the metal industry. It
is a pioneer in non-contact laser
measurement with its 1D and 2D
sensors, software engineering, design
and system manufacturing. LIMAB
has developed several innovative
measurement solutions for the steel
industry used for straightness, diameter,
ovality, length, thickness and width
measurement.
The TubeProfiler S is used for
straightness, length, diameter and
ovality/shape measurement and has
become a popular quality control unit for
tube suppliers and not just those in the
oil and gas field.
LIMAB has recently increased the
market segment for the TubeProfiler S
to include precision and hydraulic tubes.
The key measurement system includes
scanning of both ends, local and total
straightness of tubes and pipes. It is
able to measure all the above features
of a tube with a compact measurement
system. An important advantage
is that costly, time-consuming and
inaccurate manual measurements
can be replaced with an in-line
measurement system that registers
and stores all of the data of 100
per cent of the produced tubes,
including end-user certificates.
The standard TubeProfiler com-
prises several different versions
and is suitable for both hot and cold
applications in tube and pipe mills.
The measurement gauge is suitable
for seamless tubes, UOE welded
pipes and ERW longitudinal welded
tubes. A single gauge is able to measure
all the different dimensions from the
smallest to the largest diameter.
The straightness results are shown
as real-time numbers, trend graphs and
in 2D and 3D graphs for easy viewing.
The database also provides a source of
production data for long-term monitoring
and process improvements. The system
will output both the straightness of
the whole tube or part of the tube and
the length, with alarm signals if any
of the tolerance or warning limits are
exceeded.
The TubeProfiler S is easy to install in
an existing line and to relocate using the
built-in lifting hooks and quick-change
electrical connectors.
