The serviceability of a length of pipe or tube is
indisputable. Tough, tempered, resistant to acid,
oxidation and corrosion, it was crafted for demanding
purposes. But it is in performance that it shines. Prior
to installation it must receive the protections due every
highly engineered product in transit.
If a shipment of tubing does not reach its agreed
destination safely and timely, the customer is
entitled to reject it. But someone – the producer
– will pay. If conveyance from payoff to delivery is
not accomplished efficiently – ie in accord with the
dictates of productivity – the penalty will show up, very
promptly, in the bottom line.
This is where logistics comes in, and why it belongs
grouped with handling, bundling and packaging. The
products and services reviewed here are offered by
people accustomed by long experience to view safe-
conduct as an integral and essential constituent of
tubemaking.
