DAYS 3-4 MARIA LA GORDA /

GUANAHACABIBES

From Havana, visit

the Quisicuaba Community to learn about

Afro-Cuban culture, then sail toward Maria

La Gorda. On Day 4, meet with a specialist

at Guanahacabibes National Park, one of the

country’s largest nature reserves, and visit a

local school and beekeeper.

DAYS 5-6 CAYO LARGO / TRINIDAD

On the island of Cayo Largo, begin your

day with an engaging discussion with an

expert on Cuban culture, then visit a clinic

to meet with a doctor and learn about

Cuba’s medical system. Later, a diving and

conservation specialist offers a presentation

on the preservation of the coral reefs and

virgin keys of Cuba, and you’ll visit a sea-

turtle breeding center and the Avalon fly-

fishing center. A short sail brings you to the

white-sand beaches of Cayo Rico Virgin Key

for snorkeling and a late lunch on the beach.

Tonight, set sail for Trinidad and awake

the next day in this well-preserved Spanish

colonial city, with its cobbled streets, palaces,

and plazas. Explore the town with a local

architect, then visit with artists. After lunch

at a restaurant in the Plaza Mayor, you’re free

to enjoy Trinidad in the afternoon before the

ship departs for Cienfuegos.

DAYS 7-8 CIENFUEGOS

Disembark for

a visit to elegant and historic Cienfuegos,

known as the “Pearl of the South” and the

only city in Cuba to be founded by French

settlers. In 2005, the historic center was

declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Among buildings of particular interest are

the ornate Government Palace, with its

huge dome, and the Ferrer Palace, which

shows a Catalan influence. You’ll walk the

historic city center with a specialist, then

make your way to a special performance by

the Choir of Cienfuegos. You’ll even have

the chance to talk with the choir members

post-performance. After a typical Cuban

barbecue lunch at a local restaurant, you can

join a salsa lesson with fellow passengers—a

wonderful way to cap off your Cuba

adventure. Disembark and fly to Miami on

Day 8.
