Wittmann Group, Austria, has taken over
the recently insolvent company, Battenfeld
Kunststoffmaschinen GmbH. Following
closure on 31 March 2008, Wittmann now
owns the headquarters and production
location in Kottingbrunn, the worldwide
sales subsidiaries, the German customer
service company and the previously
independent service unit.
Following the consent of the board of
creditors and subject to an inspection in
accordance with the anti-trust laws, the
Austrian manufacturer of injection moulding
machines Battenfeld will in future be part
of the Wittmann Group, which has its
headquarters in Vienna.
Wittmann is a global manufacturer of a
comprehensive and innovative range of
peripheral devices for the plastics industry.
This range includes robots and automation
equipment, automatic material supply and
drying plus recycling of the plastics, and
tool tempering and cooling.
Together, Battenfeld and Wittmann claim to
be the first company in the world able to offer
a fully integrated product range for injection
moulding. With its new owner, Battenfeld
can look forward to a positive future and
can successfully maintain and expand its
long-term customer relationships.
Both companies will continue to offer
products and services separately on the
world market. According to both the owners
Dr Werner Wittmann and Georg Tinschert,
“The integration of both companies leads
to significant advantages for our customers
and we are sure to enlarge our worldwide
market position in progress.”

Middle East Plastic Pipes 2008
The Middle East Plastic Pipes 2008
conference will take place from 2-4 June
2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dubai,
UAE. The Middle East is experiencing rapid
growth and there are excellent opportunities
for suppliers to the construction industry in
the region.
Substantial developments have taken
place in the areas of new housing,
business and industry, leading to the
increasing application of pipe.
Water is a critical resource for the region
and plastics are being applied both in new
projects and renewal of existing pipelines
and sewers. Polyethylene, polypropylene
and
PVC
are
the
predominant
thermoplastic pipe materials in use, and
there is extensive application of glass-
reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe in industrial
and large pipes.
The conference will provide opportunities
to look at the markets with papers from
regional producers on polyolefin, PVC
and GRP pipes. The pipe industry
in Libya will be covered by local
researchers.
The specific conditions of higher
temperatures, wind and sand erosion put
pressure on pipes – this has been studied
by King Saud University, among others.
Material suppliers will be talking about
the developments in plastics to meet the
