N
ampo Harvest Day, the premier agri-
cultural show, held annually in Both-
aville in the Free State once again
proved to be a success for agricultural pro-
ducers and the public alike.
Organised by Grain SA, Nampo is approach-
ing its 50
th
anniversary and year on year
has been in the forefront of showcasing
the technological advances that have taken
place in the industry.
The list of its 650 exhibitors this year bears
testimony to the popularity of the event which
attracted in excess of 70 000 visitors. The par-
ticipation of some 60 international exhibitors
from nine different countries also highlighted
the far reaching appeal and importance Nam-
po has achieved over the years.
From our local exhibitors’ point of view,
of which the transport and equipment
manufacturers formed a large section of
the show, the reaction was very positive
as many of them used the opportunity to
launch new products and give exposure to
existing models.
Farming today has become more techni-
cal and scientific and the requirements for
bigger and better machinery to cope with
increased production, is evident at a show
such as Nampo. To move produce and live-
stock requires larger and more efficient
vehicles today, hence the support of the
country’s leading commercial vehicle manu-
facturers who regard Nampo as an essential
tool in their marketing strategy every year.
All the major truck manufacturers were
much in evidence this year with bigger and
better stands displaying their latest models.
Iveco this year used Nampo to launch their
new range of their Iveco 682 series trucks
which fall very well in line with the require-
ments of the agricultural, and construction
industries. UD trucks exhibited their new
Quester range of trucks for the first time
since their launch earlier this year. Isuzu,
an exhibitor for many years, highlighted the
features of their range which gives them the
edge in the medium truck market. Scania as
one of the leaders in the heavy commercial
market attracted much attention with their
newly designed stand which used the ‘walk
