3M Molecular Detection Assay Salmonella Collaborative Study
July 2012
OMA-2012-July-XXX
5. Report all of your results as soon as analyses are completed. Do not do more or less than
1
indicated in the instructions. For example, do not do duplicate analysis and report the best or
2
average result. More or fewer results complicate the statistical analyses and may invalidate your
3
results. Data sheets are provided with these instructions and indicate which results are to be
4
reported. Please include any criticisms, suggested improvements, or general comments about the
5
3M Molecular Detection Assay
Salmonella
on the Collaborators’ Comments Form provided.
6
Any results that were derived from modified protocols should be included but must be separated
7
from the main report. Results and comments should be returned to the Study Director
8
immediately upon completion of each portion of the study.

13
14
Test portions will be shipped by overnight express courier to arrive the day before initiation of
15
analysis. If the test portions do not arrive by the normal delivery time one day prior to analysis,
16
please contact a co-Study Director. All test portions will be shipped refrigerated.
Analysis of
17
test portions must be initiated on the day scheduled by the Study Director. Test kits and
18
enrichment medium will be sent directly from 3M.

Test Portion Analysis
32
33
Collaborators will be provided with enough sample to test each matrix using the 3M Molecular
34
Detection Assay
Salmonella
method and the appropriate reference method. For raw ground beef
35
they will receive approximately 60g as they will need to prepare one test portion (25g) to be
36
tested via the 3M Molecular Detection Assay
Salmonella
method
, and the other test portion
37
(25g) to be tested via the USDA/FSIS MLG reference method. For wet dog food they will
38
receive two sets of test portions: 36 x 375g (3M) and 36 x 25g (BAM). See Appendices 8.5-8.6
39
for detailed instructions on analysis. Please review the reference methods carefully before
40
initiating analysis.
