over 400 installations worldwide, for
measurements on MV, HV and EHV
extrusion lines. The x-ray based
measuring system determines wall
thickness and concentricity of the
inner semiconductor (strand shield),
the insulation and the outer semi-
conductor (insulation shield) of the
cable, as well as the outer diameter
and ovality.
The next generation of the technology
– the X-Ray 8000 NXT – provides
higher accuracy to meet the increasing
demands for precision, in addition to
latest operating system, data storage,
communications options and computer
hardware. The X-Ray 8000 NXT XY-
scanning system provides in process
or real time diameter, wall thickness,
concentricity and ovalitymeasurements
and control capability on CCV, VCV
and MDCV lines for MV, HV and EHV
cables of 10kV to 1GV. Benefits include
material savings, permanent quality
control and increased productivity,
immediate measuring values at start
up, no need for warm-up, no
calibration requirements, and fast
centring of the crosshead, all resulting
in reduced start-up scrap.
Multi-sensor technology (MST) assures
reliable measurements, even with fast
running lines where the cable vibration
may exist. With every scan, the MST
measures the vertical speed of the
cable to compensate for vibration. The
MST continuously monitors the scan
curve for vibration and corrects the
values or skips the values if they are
out of an acceptable range. All layers
can be measured with an accuracy of
0.015mm. Even a semiconductor layer
with only 0.3mm can be measured
accurately. Diameter accuracy is
maintained at 0.005mm.
The X-Ray 8000 NXT is easily
integrated in any new nitrogen/steam
CV-line or when upgrading existing
lines.
