Email designs and templates seem to vary drastically depending on which Department

creates/sends an email. The fonts and colors of an email from the CRC about a Pool Closure are

very different from an email announcing a Planning Commission vacancy. Some emails even

lack a prominent Morgan Hill logo at the top of the message. See below for a visual

representation of design variations in just a handful of the most recent emails from the City:

Social Media

Social media is a powerful tool that is flexible, can target specific segments of the community,

and is cost-effective. Unlike traditional media, social media has the potential for enhanced

connectivity and ongoing direct engagement with residents, as it allows for two-way

communication. According to Pew Research Center, 80% of adults online use social

networking sites. Although social media is still used at higher rates by young adults, Facebook

use by online adults age 65 and over is at 56% as of September 2014

. 13

The City has active official “City of Morgan Hill” accounts on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube

and Twitter. Multiple City departments/facilities also have their own social media accounts: the
