AWARDS
2017
Financial Broadcast Journalist
of the Year
Winner
Paul Lewis, Money Box, Radio 4
The challenge of broadcasting about financial
affairs, goings on in the City, et al, manifests
itself in a wide variety of ways from dedicated
news slots appearing throughout the working
day to specialist programmes for both radio
and television audiences. This year, the judges
found it fairly straightforward to whittle down
the original shortlist of five names to just two
contenders, but then it required some lengthy
discussions to ultimately pick the winner.
Eventually it was
Paul Lewis
who emerged
triumphant for his role on BBC Radio 4’s Money
Box, a longstanding broadcast dish amongst
discerning financial services cognoscenti.
“Whether or not it’s on the shortlist for an award
I listen to Money Box every week and I think Paul
Lewis is fabulous. He’s got a great eye for a story
and a lovely broadcasting style. All in all, that adds
up to the real deal,” one judge commented. “I
love the fact Paul is always so clear and thorough
and somehow always asks the questions which
most require answers. What’s more there is always
plenty of debate and the depth and breadth of
the experts who get featured is very impressive,” a
second judge added.
